To apply a Trauma-Informed Care approach as a medical student participating in direct patient care, with a focus on following the five guiding principles of trauma-informed care (safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment).
To apply an inclusive approach to navigating the patient-caregiver dyad for patients across developmental ages and stages (e.g. infant, child, adolescent) in performing histories and physical exam, including tailoring clinical language to a developmentally-appropriate level.
To practice components of an adolescent history with a focus on SSHADESS screening assessment.
To discuss tensions between inclusive clinical skills formal curriculum (i.e. intended, official curriculum) and informal curriculum (i.e. ad-hoc learning on clinical rotations) reflecting on early clinical experiences.
To explain our positionality as individual healthcare providers and its bidirectional impacts on clinical assessments.
