- To apply a Trauma-Informed Care approach as a medical student participating in direct patient care, with a focus on following the five guiding principles of trauma-informed care (safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment).
- To define disability and explain common disability models.
- To define ableism and illustrate ways in which this impacts healthcare.
- To apply an inclusive approach to clinical assessments for persons with disabilities, including: Persons with sensory disabilities (e.g. visual, hearing) ; Persons with mobility disabilities (e.g. use of mobility aids).
- To illustrate actions you can take to address ableism in medicine.
- To review specific skills which will allow you to be an advocate and ally for patients with disabilities.
