Upon completion of this problem, students will be able to reflect and identify the presence of the Hidden Curriculum as evidenced by learner, patient, preceptor and allied health. Students should be able to develop insight into the impact of contradictions between patient-centered care and professionalism. The objectives for this tutorial are to be discussed during an initial session, with ongoing discussion and identification of issues within the problem concerning the Hidden Curriculum applying to clinical practice and clinical experiences. Student should review common associations and assumptions with Medical Student Mistreatment.
Review concerns with application of bias and stereotyping statements in clinical practices
Recognize when situations in the clinical setting require allyship and patient advocacy.
Identify the discrepancies between professional behaviour and professional actions in the Hidden Curriculum.
Identify and reflect on awareness of negative practices involving the Hidden Curriculum within the clinical setting.
Identification of resources and tools which can be used to limit issues and advocate for patient care within the Hidden Curriculum.
Reflect on challenges of promoting and supporting allyship as a medical student, resident, allied health team member and staff physician.
