- Demonstrate effective communication skills in conducting a patient centered interview, including exploring the patient’s illness experience as well as the family and social context.
- Conduct a sensitive, focused physical exam relevant to the patient’s presenting problem.
- The student will develop a differential diagnosis for both obstetrical and gynecological presentations focused on the initial presentation which includes the patient’s medical, surgical and reproductive history and physical examination.
- The student will differentiate emergent and urgent from non-urgent obstetrical and gynecologic presentations.
- Demonstrate an approach to health promotion and disease prevention during patient encounters that reflect best evidence and patient preferences and value.
- Discuss evidence based approaches to patient care and the challenges of applying guidelines to individual patients.
- Interpret laboratory data, imaging studies and other tests required for the area of practice.

- The student will be able to communicate/obtain an informed consent for a basic, common procedure within women’s health, which includes risks, benefits, and/or alternatives. The student will be able to communicate an expected post-procedure course. The student will be able to discuss adverse events and/or complications with patients/families (under supervision) and document the discussion appropriately in the patient’s chart
- Recognize the limits of one’s own knowledge and seek assistance when required, ensuring patient safety is always respected.
