You followed her throughout her pregnancy for prenatal care. 7 days ago, Emma delivered baby Danielle at your local hospital by Emergency C-Section. She stayed at the hospital for 3 days after delivery. She and her baby girl are scheduled to follow-up with you in clinic at 72 hours after her discharge from hospital.

- To practice a newborn history, including antenatal and perinatal history.
- To practice a postpartum visit history, including a focus on the “B-Questions”.
- To discuss differentiation of postpartum blues and peripartum depression.
- To practice assessment of peripartum depression including a focus on risk assessment of harm to self and to others.
- To practice a Mental Status Examination.
- To discuss screening recommendations and tools for peripartum depression and the general adult population.
- To discuss psychiatric problem formulation - 4P’s framework (Predisposing, Precipitating, Perpetuating, Protective Factors).
- To discuss components of management of peripartum depression, including medication safety.
- To practice motivational interviewing for a patient in a maintenance stage of change with a focus on smoking cessation.
