Ansa Flaitis, a 22 year old student, was working hard to finish all her assignments due by the end of the semester. For the last 2 weeks she has been struggling with a cough. She saw her family physician, was examined and after a diagnosis of probable upper respiratory infection, placed on ciprofloxacin. Ansa's cold seemed to get worse as the evening progressed. She found it difficult to focus on the conversation over dinner and had to go to bed early with a pounding headache. Ansa awoke early. Her mother found her stumbling to the bathroom and not quite making sense in conversation. Mom packed her into the car and drove her to the local emergency room.
