Tutorial
Elizabeth Sezar comes in for an urgent appointment with her family doctor. When Elizabeth was 8 years old she had her first generalized tonic-clonic seizure. After her second seizure she was put on carbamazepine and did well for a few years. When she was 12 years old, Elizabeth began to have episodes of involuntary jerking or twitching in the mornings. Elizabeth was given a diagnosis of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. Her medication was changed from Carbamazepine to Valproic Acid which the neurologist felt was the best medication for this type of epilepsy. She has since done very well with only a couple of breakthrough seizures in the last few years, most likely related to Elizabeth "forgetting" to take her medication. After reviewing her chart, Elizabeth's doctor enters the room to find Elizabeth alone. She has come without her mother today. Elizabeth nervously explains the reason for her urgent visit: "I'm pregnant."
