He has had a complicated course of Crohn’s disease requiring multiple surgical resections of his small bowel due to inflammation and obstruction. His type 2 diabetes mellitus is normally well controlled by metformin but whenever he requires prednisone for acute flare ups of his Crohn’s, his blood sugars become very high, particularly after meals.
